In a sensational development, news has broken that Mani Shankar Aiyar and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held an informal secret strategy meeting with the Pakistan government authorities led by former foreign minister of Pakistan Khursheed Kasuri and representatives of the Pakistan High Commissioner, in the middle of the Gujarat elections.
The meeting was held in a very secretive manner in Mani Shankar Aiyar’s residence. This is in Jangpura Extension in New Delhi. The meeting with the Pakistan government authorities and the Congress party delegation led by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh took place on the evening of December 6, 2017.
Sources in the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs have told REPUBLIC TV that the meeting “could have taken place at a neutral spot” on the date that has been reported. Making this sensational revelation is BJP leader Ajay Aggarwal who is also the petitioner in the Bofors case. In a message to Republic TV, Aggarwal says that “The information is correct and can be verified from the Intelligence Bureau.”
Te BJP has demanded an immediate clarification by Rahul Gandhi and a press conference from the Congress on this secret strategy session between Congress leaders and Pakistani government authorities right in the middle of the Gujarat election campaign.
Earlier, the BJP had demanded why Rahul Gandhi was meeting with the Chinese ambassador in the middle of the Doklam standoff. This meeting gives the BJP ammunition to raise questions over the intent of the Congress party, which has been trying to distance itself from Mani Shankar Aiyar since the ‘neech’ controversy broke out.
This is very important development as Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently accused suspended Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar of giving ‘supari’ (contract) while on a visit to Pakistan to get him “removed” from the way to ensure peace between India and the neighbouring country.
Targeting the diplomat-turned politician for the second time in two days after the Congress leader’s ‘neech aadmi'(lowly person) jibe at him yesterday, Modi also alleged that the Congress tried to suppress this episode and did not take any action against Aiyar.
Attacking the Congress over its work culture, Modi alleged that the party believes in–‘atkana’ (to stall) ‘latkana’ (to keep the issue hanging) and ‘bhatkana’ (to divert an issue).
The prime minister’s remarks come a day after Aiyar set off a political firestorm when he called Modi a “neech kism ka aadmi”. The Congress yesterday suspended Aiyar from the primary membership of the party and issued him a show cause notice for his remarks.
“Shriman Mani Shankar Aiyar…you know what he did?” Modi asked a gathering of people in this small town of Banaskantha district in North Gujarat.
“He gave this ‘gaali’ (abuse) to me or you? Did he abuse me or Gujarat? Did he abuse the cultured society of India or me?” Modi asked.
